Just doing what I love doing...
I just love doing creative stuff, whether it is designing and illustrating on the computer, or sketching, painting and working on sculptures.
I can't remember when I first decided that I'd have art and design in my world, but I do remember loving my sketchbook from very early on. I used to carry it everywhere and draw pictures of women in pretty clothes! Today, art is very much a part of my everyday life, be it reading an art or design magazine, designing for a client, drawing, painting and getting involved in some crafty projects.
As a designer...
I am a pragmatic designer. As much as I love being arty, I believe that the purpose of design is to communicate. It must meet the brief and serve it's purpose.
As an artist...
I enjoy making beautiful things that are pleasing to the eye. I am laborious and am a perfectionist. At art school, "overly aestheticised" were words used to describe my work. I just can't help it :)
What I did in school...
During my 4 years at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), I had mood swings. Art became my passion, and on good days I was sane... on other days I was a mad artist, described as obsessive! I was so glad when I completed the course, and left with an honours degree in fine arts.
I thoroughly enjoyed my postgraduate design course at RMIT. I simply loved it! I enjoyed (still do) working on the computer and working on design briefs (they were called "homework" back then).
And further back... my first degree was in Mathematics and Economics. I studied and I studied and I passed all the exams.
And even further back...
In my previous life, I had worked in IT, banking and management consulting. Life used to be full of Excel spreadsheets and Power Point slides!
